CLIMATE EFFECTS

Project location: SERGEL TORG plaza

Stockholm has very cold climate, but in the same time sometimes sunny, sometimes changable during a day, etc. That`s why we decided to create a project to make easy life-style for leisure time of people.

The general structure will consist of a lot of dynamic pieces which work depending on weather condition.

Main skeleton of the structure consist of metal tubes. These tubes have empty space inside, that`s why they can pass water to down. And general covering is transparent material. The purpose of using transparent material is to benefit from day-light. This material should also has elasticity for easy movement.

We use weather detector sensors to detect condition of weather: rainy or sunny.

The sensor detects the wind, rainfall levels and sun. The awning can be configured to close under high wind or rain and open when the sun rises. The awning will close once the sensor detects configurations selected.

Wind sensor:
The wind sensor measures the wind speed. When speed exceeds the set level, the sensor will send a command to the receiver box. The receiver box will send the order to activate the motor function close (CLOSE), protecting the awning from the effects of wind.

Sun sensor:
The sun sensor measures the intensity of solar energy. When the light intensity exceeds the level set, the sensor will send a command to the box receiving. The receiver box send the order to the engine that will activate the open (OPEN), protecting carpets and furniture sunlight.

Rain sensor:
The rain sensor measures the amount of rain. When rainfall exceeds the set level, the red LED will light and the sensor will send an order to the receiver box. The receiving ship the order a motor that activates the closing function (CLOSE) protecting the sheet of water.

When we were in Hammarby we found some interesting systems that collect, pass and purify rainwater.

Our controversy is climate. How we can apply climate to our new architecture for Stockholm...
So, my concept is rainwater resource that how we can get clean water from climate protection structures in large public spaces. Here is brief explanation of one example of these kinds of structures:

Controversy

Our travel to Stockholm was during 25-30th of March which is the spring period. Weather was rainy almost everytime and windy.
climate-data.org

We went different architectural buildings, public spaces such as parks, plazas and etc.

One of most interesting places was Hammarby developed urban area which we learnt a lot of things from this urban planning. Specially using of climate with different ways.

By this way we got our controversy: Climate. What can we get from rainy and cold weather? Because most of months in Stockholm pass rainy and very cold. So we can find different solutions to apply by architecture. Specially for public spaces. Because if people want to spent their free time in public spaces and suddenly rain begins, what will happen? But also people want to enjoy from sun. How can we create it that helps people in both rainy and sunny weather?

The city design, facilities relationships between its citizens, weather conditions restricts these situations.

Where can we realize our project?

We can realize our project in places where is kind of intersection of people activites, for example, green areas, plazas and etc.
